Showcase Sunday #136

Showcase Sunday

Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. I meant to post this weeks ago, but life and procrastination got in the way.  Anyway, this is where the last bit of my Christmas/Birthday money went.

Books

Harry Potter UK Box Set (Harry Potter #1 – #7) by J K Rowling – Remember how I said there was just one other set of Harry Potter books I wanted to complete my collection? This is that collection. It’s normally $115-$130, depending on where you try to order it from, but Book Outlet got a few of them and had them at $80. MINE. They are so fucking pretty. The covers, the box, the naked book, the whole thing, it’s gorgeous.

Madly Ever After (I Hate Fairyland: Volume 1) by Skottie Young – This is my very first graphic novel. I really thought I wouldn’t enjoy them since I could never get in to manga, despite numerous attempts, but I was wrong! I don’t know why color makes a difference, but it apparently does! This is funny and violent and I absolutely adored it. I guess I need to get more comics now!

Caraval (Caraval #1) by Stephanie Garber – I’m about 80% finished with this and I’m very concerned with how this is going to end. Regardless of that, it has a gorgeous cover and my husband pre-ordered this for my for my birthday, so I’m happy to have it, as long as it doesn’t end horrifically.

Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) by Robin LaFevers – Lauren really enjoyed this book and it’s interesting looking enough that I’m curious about it.

Dark Triumph (His Fair Assassin #2) by Robin LaFevers – These was two were only $4. I might as well get both so I can continue on if I enjoy book 1.

All Wrapped Up (Geek Girl #1.5) by Holly Smale – I ADORED the first 2 Geek Girls books, so I’m excited to dive into this novella and get more Harriet goodness!!

The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West – I really enjoy Kasie West’s contemporary romances, so I want to collect them all!

FUNKOS

There is this awesome Media Play style store in Charlotte NC called Manifest Discs that sells Funkos and movies and CDs and bunches of pop culture stuff.  What’s really great is that they have a clearance section that’s almost always on sale at Buy 1 Get 2 free.  Which means I only had to pay for 2 of these Pops.  But I managed to get Peeta and Wedding Dress Katniss from The Hunger Games, Beca and Aubrey from Pitch Perfect, and Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy from Pride & Prejudice & Zombies.

SWAG

This is most of the swag I got around my birthday.  Lauren got me the Jane Austen socks and tattoos.  She also sent a message to Katie McGarry asking if she’d send me a birthday card and she did along with a small amount of swag.  Which was AMAZING.  Katie had another ribbon request for the new book up on her website, so that’s where that came from.  And Cambria Hebert has a mailing list where she sends her fans birthday cards and Valentine’s Day cards.  I love all of it.

As I said, Russell pre-ordered Caraval for me, so I got to sign up for the pre-order prizes.  It came with a poster of the Caraval village, a basic Caraval poster, a few tattoos, and a Caraval bag.  I also found a copy of This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab at a used bookstore that contained a letter from Victoria and a signed bookplate and that’s what the things are in the middle.

That’s it!!  I got a lot this time and all of my spending money is gone, but it was worth it.  What have you gotten in the new year?  Let me know in the comments!
