Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. PHYSICAL BOOKS
Purchased
City Of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments #5) by Cassandra Clare – Just one more book and I’ll have this entire series. I don’t know when I’ll read them because I think book 3 ended perfectly, but I do want to finish the series. You always need more Jace, right? Books-A-Million was having a buy 2, get 3rd free clearance sale, so I got this one entirely free.
Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare – I now have all the books in this series. I couldn’t pass it up for $4, right?
Collide (Collide #1) by Gail McHugh – I’ve passed up on Book Outlet several times, but there is something about finding it on the clearance rack in person that makes it impossible to put back.
A Dirty Job (Grim Reaper #1) by Christopher Moore – I read this book forever ago and remember enjoying it but not loving it. The cover is still adorable and for a dollar, I couldn’t say no.
The Chaos (Numbers #2) by Rachel Ward – I really thought I already had a copy of book 1 in this series, but apparently not. either way, it looks interesting and it was cheap!
Sleepless by Cyn Balog – I’m really super excited about this. I can’t believe I found it in a thrift store. I really loved this story. You don’t see many tales about Sandmen and this was wonderful.
How To Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier – No real reasoning here. It looks good, it was cheap, and it has a blurb by Libba Bray on the cover.
Someday, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott – I’m super stuck in contemporary romancey mode lately and this sounds perfect for that.
Undead Much? (Megan Berry #2) by Stacey Jay – I’ve had the first book in this series for a while. I keep meaning to get around to it, but other books get in the way. At least now when I finally do, I’ll have both.
How To Lose A Duke In Ten Days (An American Heiress In London #2) by Laura Lee Guhrke – I absolutely loved this. You can read my review here. That is no surprise. Laura is a HR writing god. The next book in this series is just as spectacular, so keep your eyes open for it this month.
Gifted
Someday, Someday, Maybe by Lauren Graham – This sounds pretty awesome and it was written by Lauren Graham AKA Lorelei Gilmore. My wonderful husband got it for me. 🙂
Rue (Marked Men #1) by Jay Crownover – My amazing husband got this for me for our 9 year (dating) anniversary. I’ve been pointing at this particular series in Books-A-Million for months complaining that they never seem to have the first book and today they did! I can’t wait to start it!
All Lined Up (Rusk University #1) by Cora Carmack – AHHHHH Cora Carmack!
DIGITAL BOOKS
Amazon Freebies
The Complete Falling Novels by Devon Ashley – Freebie with author recommendation? GIMME!
Lost To You (Take This Regret #0.5) by A L Jackson – I have not read anything by A L Jackson, but my baby sister is a big fan and that is all the recommendation I’ll need.
Heartless: Episode 1 (Heartless #1) by J Sterling – This has such a pretty cover!
Misconception (Finnegan Brothers #1) by Morgan Black – No real explanation beyond it was free and it looked interesting.
Blonde Date (The Ivy Years #2.5) by Sarina Bowen – This sounds so cute and it was free. No more thought required.
Finding My Prince Charming (Finding My Prince Charming #1) by J S Cooper – I’ve been wanting to read Cooper’s Illusion for a while, so I couldn’t resist this when I saw it for free.
Going Under (Going Under #1) by Georgia Cates – Pretty cover, freebie, no other explanation needed.
Kiro’s Emily (Rosemary Beath #10) by Abbi Glines – Lately I’ve been buying up a lot of the books in this series cheap, so this was a no brainer.
The Last Boyfriend (Forever Love #1) by J S Cooper – Apparently J S Cooper has a bunch of freebies right now. Gimme. Gimme all of them.
Scarred (Scarred #1) by J S Cooper – Like I said, gimme all of them.
The Ex Games (The Ex Games #1) by J S Cooper & Helen Cooper – Same as previous comment!
Three Days (The Private Club #1) by J S Cooper & Helen Cooper – Ditto
That Night (One Night Stand #0.5) by J S Cooper & Helen Cooper – The last one. 🙂
Unraveling You (Unraveling You #1) by Jessica Sorensen – I honestly didn’t believe my computer screen when it showed this as a freebie. It’s Jessica fucking Sorensen. More than that, it’s the story of Ella & Micha’s kid! MINE!
The Darkest Part (Living Heartwood #1) by Trisha Wolfe – I’ve heard great things about this!
Edge Of Mercy (The Mercy Series #1) by C C Marks – I met C C when I went to Kentucky for the first time and I wanted to buy her book then but didn’t have the funds. I kept forgetting to grab it and then I saw it for free today and was all ::grabby hands::
The Story Of Awkward by R K Ryals – No real reason for this beyond I liked the cover and title.
PLUSHIES
Kohls department stores always have plushies near the registers for the Kohls Cares program where they donate the money you spend on them to a children’s charity. It’s been a while since I have bought any of them (I have a few of the Rio ones), but these were too good to pass up. This is actually the old set. I bought my niece Simba and Patch for Christmas and when I went back today to grab a few for me, they were gone! The new ones were cute, but I was so sad to have lost out on this set. Then, by the returns, they had a rack with the old ones. I got Simba, Pluto, and Patch. Then when I was checking out, the lady said they were on clearance, so I went ahead and grabbed Dumbo as well. I’m a sucker for Disney. Then I went to the Disney Store and they had a baby Sven and I couldn’t stop myself. He was more than the 4 Kohls Disney set put together, but I love him. Mini Stitch was a quarter at a local thrift store. I can’t say no to that, can I?
FUNKOS & OTHERS
Hot Topic was having a buy one get one half off sale. Their prices on Funkos are a little steep, but with that deal, things even out and I need the Firefly ones. Mal is technically a gift for my husband but our collection is one, so I’m including him. I’m a little miffed that they made a Firefly set without a damn River or Simon or Shepard Book. Or a Reaver one? Wouldn’t that be cool? Hear that Funko makers? Release a second Firefly set with the characters you forgot the first time. Discord I couldn’t resist because he’s hugo and actually cheaper at HT. On Amazon he’s like $16, but he was $12.50 at HT. I got this awesome Stitch scarf that I plan on wearing everywhere for the rest of winter and some cool buttons. The Back To The Future trilogy isn’t strictly related, but I couldn’t resist sharing since it falls in the nerd category. Plus, I found it for $2 at a thrift store and it’s in perfect condition!
I got a pretty awesome haul this week! I cannot believe bow many free ebooks I got! That is quite a list! What did you get this week? Let me know in the comments!
